The census-designated place (CDP) is surrounded by the communities of Goddard, Seabrook, Lanham Mitchellville, Fairwood Huntington and Bowie. As of the 2010 census, there is a total population of 13,466 people living in the area.

Glenn Dale Hospital was open in 1934 as a tuberculosis sanatorium and isolation hospital. Located on Glenn Dale Rd., the historical landmark consisted of 23 buildings on 216 acres of land. In 1982, the hospital was closed done due to an excess of asbestos. On December 10, 2006, the hospital was featured in the award-winning article "Quarantined" from the Washington Post Magazine. Written by former staff writer and author Leah Y. Latimer, it talked about Latimer's mother's hospitalization at the hospital in the 1950s. On October 4, 2008, Latimer went on to give a lecture on Glenn Dale Hospital's ground, attracting more than 150 people. In 2011, the hospital was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
Situated on Bell Station Rd., Marietta House Museum is a historic site in Glenn Dale. The museum houses the story of multiple generations of free and enslaved families who lived on the 600 acres of land of the Marietta Manor. It also features exhibits, events, lectures and programs detailing the history of Prince George's County. Educational programs offered there are Teacher's Workshops, Girl Scout Etiquette Programs, Scout Badge Programs and Living History Encampments. Additionally, the museum is home to the Natural and Historical Resources Division Library of County History. Hours of operations are from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays.
Glenn Dale Park is a neighborhood park serving the residents of Glenn Dale and its surrounding communities. Located on Glenn Dale, the park is owned by the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) and open from dawn to dusk. It provides recreational opportunities such as a mixed-use field, open space, paved trails, tennis court, an outdoor practice wall and a playground.
