Loudon Park Cemetery

Located on Wilkens Ave., Loudon Park Cemetery is a historic cemetery established in 1853. In 2014, the cemetery and its funeral home were acquired by the Service Corporation International and became privately owned. In 1976, the Weiskittel-Roehle Burial Vault in the cemetery was included in the National Register of Historic Places. Notable people like actor Thomas Beck, founder of the Federal Bureau of Investigation Charles Joseph Bonaparte, operator of Ford's Theater John T. Ford, and inventor of the Linotype Ottmar Mergenthaler are buried here.

Loudon Park National Cemetery

A section of the eastern part of the Loudon Park Cemetery is still owned by the federal government. Obtained in 1862, under the National Cemetery Act, this section is now known as the Loudon Park National cemetery. It houses the remains of 2,300 union soldiers and 650 confederate soldiers. Some notable monuments in this cemetery include the Maryland Sons Monument, the Rigby Monument, the Unknown Dead Monument, the Maryland Naval Monument, and the Confederate Monument. In 1996, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
