A short boat ride from Baltimore City, Green Haven was established as a day-trip designation for residents of the center. In the early 1900s, it developed into a small community with a district town center. During the rise of suburbs, the neighborhood became more residential than before. Local shops had to close because of the pressure from nearby shopping plazas and strip malls. Green Haven has since lost its old-style "summer home" charm and unique characters. However, the neighborhood is still the largest single neighborhood in Pasadena. Nearby communities include Aspen Park, Ashburn, Five Buoy, Altoona Beach and Armiger.
