Severn is a census-designated place (CDP) in the county of Anne Arundel, Maryland, and has a total area of 17.7 square miles. Located at 39.758 degrees north latitude and 76.4138 degrees west longitude, the city is bordered by Hanover, Glen Burnie, Odenton, Millersville, and Fort George G. Situated just at the southeastern border outside of Severn is a preserve called the Severn Run Natural Environment Area. Protected by the state of Maryland, the preserve is part of the Severn Run's 24 square miles watershed – the headwaters of the Severn River. Because this area is not a park, there isn't an official entry point into the Severn Run Natural Environment Area. Outdoor enthusiasts tend to follow the stream or animal trails to navigate around the area. However, there is an official trail – the Severn Run NEA Trails – located in Millersville, MD. This trail can take people downstream to the Severn River. Hikers must beware of the erosions happening along the banks of the stream.
Inspired by the movie "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation," Robbie Mamula had set out to become the light display-obsessed Clark Griswold when he moved to Severn in 2006. His passion soon turned into the huge holiday display known as Mamulaville. People from all over the area come to Severn to see it, during the Christmas holidays. Afraid that people from far away wouldn't be able to see his creation, the family launched a Facebook page seven years ago. Since 2020, there are a total of 63 inflatables, 13 reindeers, 2,000 feet of LED lights, 25 large arches and nine plastic molds featured in Mamulaville. As one of Santa's elves, Mamulaville now collects donations for Toys for Tots and homeless shelters.
Willow Oak Flower and Herb Farm is a family-run organic flower farm. Sitting on six acres of land located on Telegraph Rd., in Severn, the farm is preserved in the Severn River and Maryland Land Trust. Visitors to the farm can shop, take workshops and tour the chemical-free, green manor. The farm is opened seven days a week, and custom arrangements by their florists can be ordered for delivery. During the Christmas holidays, the Willow Oak Flower and Herb Farm also host a holiday display. Called the Holiday Lights Walk to the North Pole, visitors can take self-guided walks to the North Pole. They can also visit Santa in his cabin and see the polar bears in Polar Bear Central.
