On March 2, 1758, German immigrant John Reister founded Reisterstown. He called it "Reister's Desire." As travelers started coming by and settlers started to build their homes and businesses, the name changed to Reister's Town and, now, Reisterstown.
Reisterstown is an unincorporated community in the Baltimore County of Maryland. It's located an hour north of Washington, D.C. In 1979, the center of Reisterstown – Reisterstown Historic District – was added to the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP).

Like the Reisterstown Historic District, there are other landmarks located in the Reisterstown community that hold historical significance.
The Montrose Mansion and Chapel is a two-story neoclassical stone home located on Camp Fretterd Military Reservation in Reisterstown, MD. It was constructed by William Patterson in 1826 as a wedding present for his grandson, Jerome Napoleon Bonaparte. A chapel, with a three-story bell and entrance tower, was added to the mansion in 1855. Because of its historical value, the Montrose Mansion and Chapel was also added to the NRHP in 1990.
Another landmark of Reisterstown that had the privilege of being on the NRHP's list is the St. Michael's Church. Also known as the Hannah More Chapel, this historic Episcopal Church was designed by New York architect John Weller Priest and constructed in 1853. It was added to the NRHP in 1979.
Not listed on the NRHP, but is still a significant landmark of Reisterstown is the Camp Fretterd Military Reservation. It is the training site for the Maryland Army National Guard and Air Guard and the home of the Maryland Defense Force's headquarters.
Besides sightseeing the historical landmarks, visitors to Reisterstown has many other attractions and activities to enjoy. Come to Hannah More Park for some picnics and relaxation. The park also offers leisure walking nature trails. For a more exciting adventure, XP Laser Sports is a laser tag area that offers various games and obstacles for all age groups. For those visiting between spring and fall, be sure to check out the free concerts hosted by Franklin Middle School on Friday nights. Every year in May, they also put on the Bloomin' ArtsFest. The other annual festival that occurs is the Reisterstown Festival in Sept. The town of Academy Acres is also close by and offers family-friendly activities and has parks to visit.
