The establishment of Middle River, Maryland, is a little blurry. However, it was recorded that in 1877, a Middle River Train Station appeared on the G.M. Hopkins & Co Baltimore County Map. By 1898, Middle River had already designated a post office and created streets. From the 1930s to 1940s, the town had expanded. During this time, the "Aero Acres" housing community was created to house workers from the Martin Aerospace Company. The community was designed by the architecture firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill.
