Linthicum – Linthicum Heights, according to the U.S. Postal Services – was established in 1801 after Abner Linthicum purchased land in the area of present-day Linthicum Heights. However, the community didn't start developing until the founding of "Linthicum Heights Company" in 1908. Currently, Linthicum Heights is a census-designated place (CDP) in Anne Arundel County, Maryland located near the town of Glen Burnie. Located at 39.12 degrees north latitude and 76.39 degrees west longitude, Linthicum Heights is an unincorporated community directly north of the Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport. In 2006, the Linthicum Heights Historic District was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
The area is home to major companies like Ciena and Northrop Grumman Electronic Systems. Some notable people who once lived in Linthicum Heights are television writer Rafael Alverez, National Security Agency Deputy Director John C. Inglis, U.S. Army colonel Leonard T. "Max" Schroader, Jr., Playboy Playmate Dorthy Mays, puppeteer Bernard H. Paul, and Major League Baseball All-Star Game player Jim Spencer.
Located in Linthicum Heights, Maryland, the National Electronic Museum showcases the history of the United States' defense electronics. Founded in 1980 by Westinghouse employees Robert L. Dwight and Jack Sun, the museum includes a public research library, conference room, gallery, event hall and climate-controlled warehouse. In addition, the National Electronics Museum has an amateur radio station that broadcasts live once a week, educational programs like YESS (Young Engineers and Scientists), the annual Robot Fest event and the Robert L. Dwight scholarship. There are 12 exhibit galleries in the museum: Fundamentals Gallery, Communications Gallery, Early Radar Gallery, Cold War Radar Gallery, Modern Radar Galler, Countermeasures Galler, Under Seas Galler, Electro-optical Galler, Space Sensor Galler, Temorpary Galler and Outside Gallery. Founded and first curated by notable scientific illustrator William Didusch in 1971, the William P. Didusch Center for Urologic History is the headquarters of the American Urological Association (AUA). Located in Linthicum Heights, MD, the Center is also a museum featuring a wide collection of photographs, drawings and instruments historically important to urology. The Center aids in the research of urologic history and provides over 300 years of the history of urology. Some of the things on display at the William P. Diduscho Center for Urologic History are large mineral samples of kidney stones and the "spermatorrhea ring." The "spermatorrhea ring" was a device used in the early 20th century to prevent ejaculations while sleeping. The William P. Didusch Center for Urologic History is currently curated by Micheal Moran.
