Shipley Hill is a neighborhood in the southwest area of Baltimore, Maryland. As part of the Baltimore City County, the area is bounded by the neighborhoods of Western to the northwest, Lexington to the northeast, West Pratt to the east, Carrollton Ridge to the southeast, Mill Hill to the south and Carroll South to the west. W. Baltimore St. runs east to west through the neighborhood. It has a population of 2,445 people and gives off an urban, suburban mix feel. Households in the community have a median income of $24,840. 65% of the residents rent their homes. The average rent price is $1,075. The average home value is $87,256. Depending on which part of Shipley Hill you live in, families with children in the area are assigned to Frederick Elementary School, Mary Ann Winterling Elementary School, Booker T. Washington Middle School and The Seed School Of Maryland.

Parks

There are three parks in Shipley Hill, providing the residents a recreational area to hang out with friends and spend their time. Visitors are also permitted to bring their pets into the parks if they're on a leash.

Warwick Avenue Park is a neighborhood park on N. Warwick Ave. Owned and operated by the Baltimore City Department of Recreation, the park is open from dawn to dusk. It features an open activity space, outdoor basketball court and playground.

Across the street from Warwick Avenue Park is Shipley Hill 1 Park. It is also operated by the Baltimore City Recreation and Parks and open from dawn to dusk. With the size of between a basketball court and a football field, the park is smaller than the previous one. It offers an open space and basketball court.

Shipley Hill 2 Park is the other Shipley Hill park. Located below the other parks on Boyd St., it includes an open space and playground.

Old Eigenbrot Brewery

The Old Eigenbrot Brewery is a fine example of brewery architecture on Williard St. It was founded in 1873 by Ferdinand Joh as the Ferdinand Joh Brewery. When he died in 1876, his daughter Louisa inherited it with her husband, Henry Eigenorot. In 1892, after a reorganization of the brewery, the son of the malt supplier Levi Straus, Alexander Strauss, because the new manager and co-owner of the brewery. By 1895, it was producing about 45,000 barrels of beer. In 1899, the Maryland Brewing Company purchased the brewery along with 17 other ones in Baltimore. The Gottlieb-Bauernschmidt-Straus Brewing Company bought the Maryland Brewing Company in 1906. In 1912, after Straus left the brewery, Charles Bach became the new manager and brewmaster. He ran the place until Prohibition closed it down in 1920.
