Lake Arbor is an unincorporated area in Prince George's County, Maryland. It was originally developed by Levitt & Sons and known as Newbridge. In the mid-1970s, the project went bankrupt after only 41 houses were sold. The debt was acquired by Manufacturer's Hanover Trust and held as real estate owned (REO) until David A. Gitlitz, Phillip Abrahms, Alvin Dworman, Phillip D. Winn and Gary S. Lachman purchased it ten years later. They changed the name to Lake Arbor and developed it into the planned community that we know today.
Lake Arbor established the county of Prince George's as the most desirable designation for young and affluent African American families moving out of the Washington, D.C. area for a more suburban lifestyle. With a population of 9,973 people, the census-designated place (CDP) offers an urban, suburban mix feel. 61% of the residents own their own homes. The median value of a home in Lake Arbor is $315,600. The average rent price is $1,845. Homes in the area are served by the Prince George's County Public Schools District. Lake Arbor Elementary School and Ernest Everett Just Middle School are located within the CDP.
Arbor Park is a neighborhood park on Arbor Park Pl. Owned by the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, the park is open from dawn to dusk. The size of it is larger than a football field.
