Wilson Park is a community in the northeast part of Baltimore, Maryland. One of the first African American communities in the city, it is surrounded by the neighborhoods of Richnor Springs, Kernewood, Guilford, Pen Lucy, Original Northwood, Northwood, New Northwood and Keniworth Park. The main roads serving the area are E. 43rd St., The Alameda, E. Cold Spring Ln., and York Rd.
The community of Wilson Park was developed by Harry Wilson. It was the first community in the City of Baltimore that was built solely for black people. In the 1950s, Wilson's family started selling large tracts of the land to developers who began building new homes on Coldspring Ln. and St. Georges Ave. In 1953, Kimberleigh Rd. was established as part of the development. Homes in Wilson Park were bought by African American families who were steelworkers from the Sparrows Point Shipyard, administrators from Morgan State College, postal workers and teachers.
Willow Avenue Park is located on Willow Ave. in Wilson Park. Open from sunrise to sunset, it is owned and operated by the Baltimore City Department of Recreation and Parks. The park offers amenities such as an open recreational space, playground and outdoor pool. Pets are allowed to accompany you on the premises if you are on a leash.
The Church Of The Redeemed of The Lord is a Pentecostal church on Old York Rd., south of Willow Avenue Park. It is a church that's committed to the word and ways of God. There is a food distribution center situated within its vicinity. The Church Of The Redeemed of The Lord is open Sundays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Because Wilson Park is a small neighborhood, it only has a few restaurants within the community. These eateries include Ma Wongs Carryout Chinese restaurant, The House of Chiefs Restaurant Lounge and Wozi Lounge. However, for residents who don't want to eat from these local businesses, there is a wider selection just outside the neighborhood.
