The Dundalk Historic District is a national historic district in Baltimore City and Baltimore County, Maryland. It is made up of structures from 1910 to 1940, representing architectural styles from the Colonial Revival era, the Tudor Revival era, and the Art Deco and Streamline Moderne era. These structures consist of residential, commercial and institutional buildings, with many buildings designed by the noted Baltimore architect Edward L. Palmer, Jr.
The historic district features the only two housing developments built during World War I by the United States Shipping Board Merchant Fleet Corporation (EFC) in Maryland. It also reflects the Garden City planning ideals experimentation. Because of its significance to historical associations and architecture, the Dundalk Historic District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.
Dundalk Elementary School is a public school located in Dundalk Historic District. Part of the Baltimore County Public Schools System, the school has a total enrollment of 721 students. It serves pre-Kindergarten through fifth grade and has a student-t-teacher ratio of 17 to 1. Based on state test scores, 18% of the students are proficient in reading and 12% are in math. Dundalk Elementary School has an overall Niche grade of a C plus and a GreatSchools rating of a 2 out of 10.
The Dundalk-Patapsco Neck Historical Society and Museum is a non-profit organization promoting the collection of historical materials of the North Point Peninsula for education and public access. Operated by volunteers, the museum is open Mondays through Fridays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. On Saturdays, it is open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Heritage Park is a park catering to the residents of the Dundalk Historic District. It is operated by the Dundalk-Eastfield Recreation and Parks Council and opens daily from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. The park features an open field for recreational activities. Residents have the option to picnic in the area or sit up camp. Vendors like coming to the park to sell their products. With paved paths, visitors can also enjoy a stroll in the park with the children or pets.
Bounded by the streets of N Dundalk Ave., N Central Pl., Shipping Pl., and Center Pl., Veterans Park is another park in the Dundalk Historic District. It is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The park offer amenities such as an open field and pavilion area. It also has a paved area with a bell monument and two cannons. In addition, community events are often held at Veterans Park. This includes community cleanups, Merchants in the Park, and farmers' markets.
