It is bounded by Perring Pkwy. to the east, Loch Raven Blvd. to the west, Woodbourne Ave. to the north and Hartsdale Rd. to the south. Other communities within the area are Woodbourne Heights, Chinquapin Run Park, New Northwood, Stonewood-Penwood-Winston, and Loch Raven. The community of Perring Loch was named after its boundaries, Perring Pkwy. and Loch Raven Blvd. Offering a dense suburban feel, 86% of its residents own their homes. The median home value for the area is $160,351. The median rent is $1,244. The average income for households in Perring Loch is $63,268. This is more than the $53,722 that was recorded in 2000. The population of the community also increased from the 2,728 people registered in the 2000 census to 5,091 people.
Northwood Elementary School is part of the Baltimore City County Public Schools District. Located in the community of Perring Loch, it is near the Chinquapin Run Park and adjacent to the Northwood Recreation Center. The school serves 624 students from grades pre-Kindergarten through fifth. It has a student-to-teacher ratio of 18 to 1. Based on test scores recorded by the state, 23% of the students are at least proficient in reading and 27% are in math. Northwood Elementary has an overall Niche grade of a C minus and a GreatSchools rating of a 5 out of 10.
The whole south portion of Perring Loch consists of the southern portion of the Chinquapin Run Park. Open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, it is a 76-acre stream corridor and city park that follows the course of the Chinquapin Run. Amenities offered are:

Serving as a major tributary to the Herring Run, Chinquapin Run Park is one of the important environmental assets in Baltimore. It is an excellent place for activities such as picnics, dog walks, nature hikes and adventures along the stream valley. The park is also a perfect place for photo opportunities as the leaves change colors during the fall.
Like Chinquapin Run Park, Northwood Recreation Center is managed by the Baltimore City Department of Recreation and Parks. The center is situated on Winford Rd., adjacent to the Chinquapin Run Park. Built in 1964, it offers additional play areas and basketball courts for residents in Perring Loch. Its hours of operation are from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. On Tuesdays, it is from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. These hours are for the fall, winter and spring months. During the summer, it is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Mondays through Fridays.
