The Neighborhood of "A to K"

Bayview, or Hopkins-Bayview, is a neighborhood in the Southeast District of Baltimore, Maryland. Located at 39.1729 degrees north latitude and 76.3247 degrees west longitude, Bayview sits between the Pulaski industrial area and the neighborhoods of Fifteenth Street and Greektown. Previously referred to as the "A to K" neighborhood, the streets that serve the residents of Bayview are as follows:

As of the 2000 census, the population of people residing in Hopkins-Bayview is 460. The racial makeup was 55.4% White, 29.3% African American, 10.9% Asian, 3.3% from other races, 3.3% from Hispanic or Latino of any race, 0.9% Native American, and 0.9% from two or more races.

The neighborhood had a total of 95 housing units. Households in the area made a median income of $28,750. As of 2019, the median income has increased to $57,143. There are also 2,166 people currently living in Hopkins-Bayview. Learn more about the nearby comedy club in O'Donnell Heights.

Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center

Formerly the Francis Scott Key Medical Center and the Baltimore City Hospitals, the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center is part of the Johns Hopkins Health System. Located on Eastern Ave. in the southeast portion of Baltimore City, Maryland, the center was founded in 1773 as the "Baltimore County and Town Almshouse" for the impoverished. It is one of the oldest health care institutions on the East Coast. In 1984, the ownership was transferred to Johns Hopkins Hospital. As a teaching hospital, the center includes a trauma center, neonatal intensive care unit, geriatrics center and burn center. The Johns Hopkins Burn Center is the only adult burn trauma center in the state of Maryland and consists of 420 beds. Also founded on the campus of the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center are the National Institute on Aging and National Institute on Drug Abuse.

Joseph E. Lee Park

The Joseph E. Lee Park, or the Joseph Lee Playfields, is a park between Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center and Patterson High School. Established in 1949 at the northern high ground of the Herring Run watershed, the park acts as an athletic site for the community of Bayview. It is used frequently to host outdoor recreational events like softball leagues, kickball tournaments and soccer matches. Some of the amenities featured at Joseph Lee Playfields are a playground, basketball court, 10 ballfields, five athletic fields, wading pool, pavilion and fieldhouse.

Patterson High School

Serving students from grades nine to 12 in the Hopkins-Bayview area of Maryland, Patterson is the most diverse high school in Baltimore. The school has a total of 1,049 enrollments. Programs offered at Patterson High School include Air Force JROTC, Project Lead the Way, Advanced Placement courses, Career and Technical Education Graduation Pathways, interscholastic athletics, and robotics club.
