Notre Dame of Maryland University

Notre Dame of Maryland University was established in 1873 by the School Sisters of Notre Dame, a Roman Catholic academic and educational religious congregation. Originally known as the "Notre Dame of Maryland Preparatory School and Collegiate Institute," it became a four-year college for undergraduates in 1895. In 1896, it became the first four-year Roman Catholic college in the U.S. for women. In 2011, the school was able to become a university and changed its name to the Norte Dame of Maryland University. The university is also the ninth-oldest Jesuit college in the U.S. It is divided into the Loyola College of Arts and Sciences, the Sellinger School of Business and Management, and the Loyola School of Education. The student body consists of around 4,000 undergraduate and 1,900 graduate students.

Gallagher Mansion and Outbuilding

Gallagher Mansion and Outbuilding is a historic home on Notre Dame Ln. in Radnor-Winston. Built in 1854 as an Italianate villa, the mansion was later enlargened and embellished in the Second Empire architectural style. It features a mansard roof covered in decorative slate and walls built from local rough fieldstone and rubble. On the other hand, the outbuilding is a two-story rectangular wood carriage home comprised of a cupola and hip roof. In 1983, the 3.6-acre property of the Gallagher Mansion and Outbuilding was listed on the NRHP.
