Kemp Mill is an unincorporated area in Montgomery County, Maryland. Located at the coordinates of 39.033832 degrees north latitude and 77.024541 degrees west longitude, the census-designated place (CDP) is served by the Wheaton Post Office and includes the communities of Kemp Mill Estates and Kemp Mill Farms. The 2010 census recorded the CDP as having a total area of 2.54 square miles. It had a population of 12,564 people and 4,430 households. The Montgomery County Public Schools System operates the public schools in the area. Schools within Kemp Mill include Kemp Mill Elementary, Forest Knolls Elementary School, Col. E. Brooke Lee Middle School and Northwood High School.

The Kemp Mill Center is the commercial hub of the Kemp Mill neighborhood. The shopping center was anchored for decades by the Gaint Food grocery store until September 27, 2007. On November 7, 2007, a small local chain of grocer stores, Magruder's, opened in the former Giant location. However, this store also closed in July 2012 after Shalom Kosher bought it out. On October 31, 2012, the kosher grocery store open on Lamberton Dr. Besides this store, the Kemp Mill Center also offers a Kemp Mill Beer & Wine, MVA - Kemp Mill, Holy Chow!, Nova Europa, Moneygram, SunTrust, Cartronics ATM, Kemp Mill Dry Cleaners, U-Haul Neighborhood Dealer, Kemp Mill Optical and CVS Pharmacy.
The Kemp Mill Urban Park was developed in the 1960s on the corner of Arcola Ave. and Lamberton Dr., next to Kemp Mill Center. The 2.7-acre park was praised highly for its innovative and contemporary design. It includes a large water feature, accessible bridges, accessible playground, accessible basketball court, benches, and many mature trees. The park is open daily from sunrise to sunset and is operated by Montgomery Parks.
The Kemp Mill Estates Local Park is a 12-acre park bordering the Northwest Branch Stream Valley Park. Located on Claybrook Dr., it was acquired by the M-NCPPC in 1962. The park is maintained without using any pesticides and offers a multipurpose field, casual use softball field, playground, basketball court and two tennis courts. The Kemp Mill Recreation Building is also available year-round and open for reservations.
Kemp Mill Swim Club is a private swimming club in Kemp Mill. Situated in the neighborhood of Kemp Mill Estates, between Lamberton Dr. and Hermleigh Rd., the club offers a quiet and safe space for residents in the area to socialize and meet new people. Services and amenities provided are:
