Cedarcroft is a historic residential neighborhood in the North district of Baltimore, Maryland. It is bordered by Glttings Ave., East Lake Ave., Bellona Ave., and York Rd. Philip E. Lamb purchased 25 acres of the land in 1885. Several years later, he purchased an additional 20 acres and called his estate Cedarcroft. The 1846 house that was located on the property before Lamb purchased it was extended in 1886 and is now still standing on Sycamore Rd. In 1910, Philip Lamb, George Lamb, George Van Hollen, C.L. Applegarth and William McGreen founded the Cedarcroft Land Company. Later, the company was joined by Frank A. Warner, Jr., and architect Edward L. Palmer.
By 1921, 20 houses had been built on the property. Lots were sold for $1,800 to $2,000. Due to an increase of people moving to the area, in the early 1920s, the Cedarcroft Land Company was liquidated. The Cedarcroft Maintenance Corporation and Cedarcroft Improvement Association were formed. On December 24, 2003, Cedarcroft was listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) as a historic district.
Most of the homes in the area were designed by Palmer and built by the Cedarcroft Land Company between 1910 and 1939. They are of the Dutch Colonial Revival, Tudor Revival, Federal Revival, Georgian Revival, Cape Cod Revival, English Cottage, Split-Level, Bungalow and Italianate architectural styles. In 2016, a new house was built in the neighborhood. This would be the first house built since 1953. Homes in the area have an average value of $442,118. 83% of the residents own their homes. The median income for a household is $135,950. There is a population of 2,988 people in Cedarcroft.
The Lamb Estate is the site of the house built in 1886 by Philip Lamb. The Eastlake architectural style house features a cross-gable roof, porch elevated by Doric columns, sash windows with shutters and a simple bracketed cornice.
The Church of the Nativity & Holy Comforter was built in Garrett County, Maryland. In 1913, it was dismantled and moved to Cedarcroft Rd., where it was dedicated. As the first official church in the neighborhood, the first church service was held on Christmas of that year. In 1923, a Parish House was added to the church. Because of this new construction, the church was moved 100 feet toward the York Rd. side of the property. The Cedarcroft School was established later within the church.
The Cedarcroft School was established in 1947 by Emeritus Edith S. Gentry. Located in the neighborhood of Cedarcroft, the school was initially called Cedarcroft Kindergarten. It currently has an enrollment of 85 students and served children from ages two through 6. Cedarcroft School offers the following grades:
A summer camp featuring S.T.E.A.M is also offered at the school.
