Welcome to Woodside Park, MD, a neighborhood rich in history and community spirit, proudly served by Blank Kim Injury Law from our Silver Spring, MD location. As a dedicated personal injury law firm, we are honored to support and serve the residents of this vibrant community.
Woodside Park's roots trace back to the Alton Farm, the former country estate of Crosby Stuart Noyes, a prominent Washingtonian and owner of the Washington Evening Star newspaper. Following Noyes' death in 1908, the estate was inherited by his children. In 1922, it was transformed by the Woodside Development Corporation into the Woodside Park neighborhood, with parcels initially set at about one acre, many of which were later subdivided.
This neighborhood, however, also reflects a challenging period in our nation's history. From the 1920s to the 1960s, Woodside Park utilized racially restrictive covenants to exclude African-Americans. These covenants, a dark chapter in the neighborhood's history, have since been invalidated, but they remain a poignant reminder of the struggles for racial equality.
Situated just north of downtown Silver Spring, one of Washington, DC's oldest suburbs, Woodside Park is bordered by major roads like Georgia Avenue and Colesville Road. It neighbors communities such as Woodside Forest and Seven Oaks-Evanswood, and is adjacent to the Silver Spring business district.
The neighborhood is known for its scenic, park-like setting with winding roads that complement the natural topography, rather than adhering to a grid pattern. The architectural diversity here is remarkable, featuring a wide range of styles from the 20th century, reflecting the community's evolving taste and character over the years.
The Woodside Park Civic Association (WPCA) is the cornerstone of this community, fostering a sense of togetherness through events such as Oktoberfest, Halloween festivities, and a summer picnic. Their monthly newsletter, The Vo!ce, keeps residents connected and informed.
A testament to the neighborhood's cultural diversity is the presence of the Orthodox Jewish community, centered around the Woodside Synagogue Ahavas Torah (WSAT). Established in 1974, the synagogue is a vital part of the community and is within the Shepherd Park/Woodside Community Eruv, covering a significant portion of Silver Spring and parts of Northwest DC.
