An unincorporated community, Lochearn is a suburb located in Baltimore County, MD. It's directly west of the city of Baltimore. Lochearn was first established in 1872 when Dr. Francis W. Patterson bought the land after the Civil War. It was named after the lake in England where Dr. Patterson's Devonshire cattle came from. There are several neighborhoods within this community: Brighton, Milford, Villa Nova, Campfield Gardens, Lochearn, Forest Gardens, Sudbrook Park, Willow Glen, and Williamsburg or Park Hill. The community of Lochearn has three major parks visitors and residents utilize: the Gwynns Falls Trail, Villa Nova Park, and Powder Mill Park.
The Gwynns Falls Trail is a 15-mile long trail that provides a unique urban hiking and biking experience. Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy the scenic and historic greenway stream valley from this trail. The Gwynns Fall watershed goes all the way to Villa Nova Park. Villa Nova Park, or Milford Mill, is a 95 acres park best known for being a migrant trap. Over 150 species of birds have been spotted there. The most common are warblers. Informative presentations and bird walks are hosted at Villa Nova Park monthly by the Baltimore Bird Club. For a more traditional park that includes a playground, tennis court and multipurpose court, visitors can head to Powder Mill Park. It's located right next to Gwynns Falls Park.
Besides nature-filled parks, visitors and residents are seen shopping and dining at the Woodmoor Shopping Center or the Reisterstown Road Plaza. Historic Randallstown, MD is also located a short drive away.
