Cheswolde is a community in the northwest region of Baltimore, Maryland. It is located along the north side of the Western Run and is surrounded by the areas of Wellwood, Mt. Washington, Pimlico, Glen and Fallstaff. The main roads serving residents and visitors of Cheswolde are Greenspring Ave., Cross Country Blvd., and Taney Rd. The residential community dates back to the 1700s when Charles Carroll of Carrollton owned a piece of land that is now part of Cheswolde.
In the 1800s, that land and the surrounding land along the Western Run was used to operate a mill. In 1868, the mill became damaged from a flood. Between the 1950s and 1960s, the community saw an increase in residential development. Most of the homes now are from that timeframe. As of today, Cheswolde is one of four areas in northwest Baltimore that is a Jewish community.
