South Gate was previously a census-designated place (CDP) in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. However, in the 2010 census, it was added to the Glen Burnie CDP. Located at 39.132358 degrees north latitude and 76.631126 degrees west longitude, the CDP had a population of 28,672 people and a total area of 6.3 square miles.
The area has a median real estate price of $256,904. This is 33.4% more expensive than other neighborhoods in Maryland and 54.4% more expensive than other U.S. neighborhoods. The urban neighborhood has an average rental price of $1,669. The real estate in South Gate is made up of small studio to two bedrooms and medium sized three to four bedrooms apartment complexes and townhomes. 82% of the residential properties in the area are classified as apartment complexes or high-rise apartments. Most of them were built between 1970 and 1999. Some were built earlier between 1940 and 1969.
South Gate is served by the Anne Arundel County Public Schools District. Schools located within the neighborhood include Southgate Elementary School, Rippling Woods Elementary School and Old Mill Senior High School.

However, Northway Shopping Center isn't the only place that provides specialty stores and dining options. Many of these businesses are scattered around the intersection. The Southgate/Old Mill Park is owned and managed by the Anne Arundel County Department of Recreation and Parks. Situated on the corner of Old Mill Rd. and Oakwood Rd., the park is in the heart of the neighborhood. It is open from dawn to dusk and offers amenities such as two baseball fields, basketball courts, tennis courts, one multi-purpose field, a picnic area, a playground, and paved and natural trails.
The North Arundel Aquatic Center is also operated by the Anne Arundel County Recreation and Parks. Located on Crain Hwy., the aquatic center features an 8-lane 25-yard competition pool and one leisure swimming pool. The leisure pool includes three 20-yard lap lanes and an indoor water park, with a 134-foot water slip, preschool water slide, splash down area, vortex area, water buckets and poolside spa for adults.
Open seven days a week, the aquatic center provides visitors with a fully equipped locker room. Children must be potty-trained and 3-years-old and up to be permitted to swim. Children 13 and under must be supervised by a paying adult at all times. Admission fees range from $4 to $10. Fitness classes and swim classes are also offered at the North Arundel Aquatic Center for additional fees.
