District Heights is an incorporated city located 9.85 miles from central Washington. It is part of Prince George's County in Maryland. Originally farmland owned by Major Leander P. Williams, District Heights was part of Lord Baltimore's four patents – "Good Luck," "Magruder's Plains Enlarged," "the Levels," and "Offutt's Adventure" – issued by King Charles I of Great Britain. In 1925, Joseph Tepper, David L. Blanken, Henry Oxenberg, Gilbert Leventhal, Simon Gordon, and Simon Gerber bought the land and created the District Heights Company. By 1925, streets were paved. By 1936, there were officially 35 homes, two businesses, a grocery store, a water tower, a sewage system, and a free bus service.
