Mitchellville is an affluent African American unincorporated area in Prince George's County, Maryland. Located at 38.9413 degrees north latitude and 76.813616 degrees west longitude, the census-designated place (CDP) has a total area of 5.0 square miles. It was named after John Mitchell – the owner of the Essington Hall plantation that encompassed most of the area. However, as of 2010, the Essington Hall is no longer part of the Mitchellville CDP. Instead, the CDP is drawn one tract over to the west of the Woodmore CDP.
Mitchellville has a population of 11,547 people. The area has a suburban rural mix feel and features many parks and recreations. About 92% of its residents own their own homes. Newton White Mansion is among one of the most beautiful venues in Prince George's County. It is situated in Mitchellville on 586 lush, green acres of land. Operated by the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC), the property is home to a collection of agricultural outbuildings that reflect the rural architecture of the past. The neo-Georgian style brick mansion features fine architectural details, wooden floors, crystal chandeliers, six spacious rooms and a glass-enclosed atrium. The mansion is available for rentals, whether it be for wedding ceremonies, receptions, cocktail parties, corporate meetings or seminars. Tours of the mansion are also offered by appointment only. Newtown White Mansion is open weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Enterprise Golf Course is a public golf course in Mitchellville. Open in 1976, the course was built on the historic property of the former Newton White Dairy Farm. The premier golf course features the following:
The Enterprise Golf Course is open Mondays to Fridays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. On the weekends, it is open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Enterprise Estates Park is located on Chantilly Ln. The park is operated by the M-NCPPC and is open from sunrise to sunset. It is one of the many parks serving the residents of Mitchellville. It provides recreational amenities such as a multipurpose field, open space, outdoor basketball court, tennis court, playground and an outdoor practice wall. The park also includes a paved trail loop for jogging, running and walking your dogs.
Vista Gardens Marketplace is an outdoor shopping mall off of Martin Luther King Jr. Hwy. The shopping mall is one of the only shopping areas catering to the residents of Mitchellville. Stores and restaurants offered at the mall are The Home Depot, Office Depot, Chipotle Mexican Grill, Jersey Mike's Subs, Buffalo Wild Wings, Chick-fil-A, Target, Target, Grace's Steak & Seafood and Panera Bread.
