Butler, or often referred to as Worthington Valley, is an unincorporated community in Baltimore County, Maryland. Located at geographical coordinates of 39.535278 degrees north latitude and 76.728056 degrees west longitude, the community forms a small commercial crossroad in the Western Run-Belfast Road Historic District – listed in 1979 on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). It is bounded by the communities of Glyndon to the west, Sparks to the east, Cockeysville to the south and Upperco to the north.
The community of Butler has been home to many of Maryland's oldest and wealthiest families for over 150 years. Preserved and consisting of historic landmark houses and estates, it is also home to several equestrian events like the Hunt Cup and the Grand Nationals. The area features a Maryland Saddlery, liquor store, fire station, general store, post office, and bike-and-coffee shop.
Butler Volunteer Fire Company was created on December 8, 1953, and chartered on March 22, 1954. The lands the temporary station and new station resides on were donated by Mr. Will Davis and his sister May. The fire station is comprised of one engine, a utility, a tanker support unit, and a brush unit. One of the 30 volunteer stations that make up the Fire Serve of the Baltimore County Fire Department, it now protects around 3,500 people living in the 64 square miles radius.
Veloccino Bike and Coffee is located on Falls Rd, along with several other small shops and businesses. A passion project of Marc Lefkowitz, the coffee shop is the perfect place for cyclists to start, take a break in between, and end their ride. It offers ample parking, a covered patio, bottle fills, changing area and an outdoor shower. Customers can also get their hands on a Wilier Bicycle, Specialized Bicycle, BMC Bicycle, Colnago Bicycle, Cinelli Bicycle, Castelli Clothing, and Eve Wheels and Components sold at the shop. For those who are just looking for a spot to hang out and eat, the coffee shop also provides cold drinks, min-ride snacks, fresh pastries, and coffee made from Stumptown Coffee's direct and fair trade beans.
