Known as the "Gateway to the Nation's Capital," Morningside is a town in Prince George's County, MD. The town was developed with the establishment of Andrews Air Force Base in 1942. It was later incorporated in 1949. Morningside is home to many notable accolades. For example, the town has one of the largest Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) in the United States. It is the city of license for Washington, D.C.'s most prominent radio stations – WJFK and WPGC-FM. The community of Morningside is also home to one of the busiest volunteer fire departments in Prince George's County. The Morningside VFD Station 827 have been recognized nationally for their service to the community.

Demographics

As of the 2010 census, there were a total number of 2,015 people living in Morningside, MD. The population density of the CDP was 3,598.2 residents per square mile. The town had an ethnic makeup of:

  • 67.3% African American
  • 20.6% White
  • 8.6% Hispanic or Latino of any race
  • 4.9% Other races
  • 3.9% Asian
  • 2.8% Two or more races
  • 0.3% Native American
  • 0.1% Pacific Islander

There were 922 residential houses and 851 households in Morningside in 2010. The households consisted of:

  • 29.4% with children under 18
  • 30.3% married couples
  • 18.6% female householders
  • 5.8% male householders
  • 45.4% non-families
  • 36.4% individuals
  • 4.7% had someone living alone who was 65+

46.2% of the population were males, and 53.8% were females. Residents living in this area have a median age of 34.6 years old.

Douglas Patterson Park

Douglas Patterson Park, located on Marianne Dr., is a neighborhood park serving the residents of Morningside, MD. The park is larger than a football field. It features recreation amenities such as a baseball and softball field, multipurpose field, paved trails, outdoor basketball court, tennis court, outdoor practice wall, playground, picnic tables and grills. The park is operated by the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission and requires a permit for organized play. To access Douglas Patterson Park through public transportation, visitors can take the BUS route K12.

Andrews Manor Shopping Center

Situated between the Capital Beltway Outer Loop and Allentown Rd. is the Andrews Manor Shopping Center. Catering to residents in the area, the east portion of the shopping center is within the boundary of Morningside. Shops and restaurants located here are Family Dollar, AutoZone Auto Parts, Tobacco bazar, Plaza Latina, Pho Viet, The Tender Rib Carryout, Metro by T-Mobile, La Colonia International Supermarket, The Funny Cakes, Kachis Chicken - Allentown and Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen.
