Glenarden is a city in Maryland. Part of Prince. George's County, it was developed by W. R. Smith in 1919, when he purchased a group of properties about 10 miles east of Washinton, D.C. The residential community consisted of only 15 people. Thirty years later, the African-American, middle-class suburban community petitioned for incorporation as the Town of Glenarden. The most prominent highway passing through the city is the Capital Beltway and Interstate-95. As of the 2010 census, it has a population of 6,000 people.
