In 2007, the park was closed after its soil sample was found to be contaminated with arsenic produced from the former Allied Chemical Race Street plant that operated for 80 years on the property adjacent to the park.
In 2010, after a successful cleanup monitored by the Maryland Department of the Environment, it was reopened on May 22. Open from dawn to dusk, the 11-acre park offers recreation opportunities such as an open space, baseball and softball diamonds, and a soccer and football field. Regular park amenities include restrooms and drinking fountains.
